An AI label is a weak reason to contact an investor. A stronger shortlist explains the technical problem, who pays to solve it and why the fund's current thesis overlaps with that business. Point Nine, Episode 1 and Crane offer three different starting points for AI and software founders researching an early round.
Expand the comparison with the AI seed investor list and AI pre-seed investor list.

See which investors fit your startup
Add your website. We pick three investors who back companies at your stage, sector and market, with the evidence for each.
How should an AI founder compare investor fit?
Begin with the product rather than the model provider. Describe the user's workflow, the costly problem, the technical advantage and the evidence of demand. Then distinguish application software, infrastructure and research-heavy technologies. A fund's investment in one AI category is not proof of appetite for every other category.
Point Nine
Point Nine describes itself as an early-stage firm based in Europe and investing globally in AI. Its website gives a $1M–$10M investment range per company and shows seed investments in software businesses.
- Why consider it: Worth investigating when your thesis can be connected to a specific part of its current AI focus and relevant portfolio evidence.
- Check before outreach: The per-company range is not explicitly a first-cheque range. Confirm entry stage and initial commitment; do not copy it into a first-cheque column.

Episode 1
Its FAQ describes pre-seed and seed investing across the UK and Europe, with an AI/infrastructure focus and cheques of £250K–£2M.
- Why consider it: A candidate for defensible software solving a technical problem, particularly when you can explain the seed-to-Series-A milestone.
- Check before outreach: Its stated preference is to lead; follower cheques have a different limit. Check the intended role and the current criteria for B2B software.

Crane Venture Partners
Its September 2026 statement describes investing from inception through seed across Europe, North America, India and Asia-Pacific, including technologies at the intersection of software, AI and other disciplines.
- Why consider it: A research candidate for technically ambitious businesses whose core advantage spans more than one field.
- Check before outreach: The announcement describes several investment vehicles. Identify the relevant team and vehicle, then verify the initial cheque and specific thesis fit.

Write a match reason that survives a source check
- Describe what the product does without using the word AI. Name the user, buyer and outcome.
- Add the technical advantage and its evidence: a benchmark, customer workflow result or proprietary capability. Label targets separately from achieved results.
- Read a current fund statement and a relevant portfolio entry. Record whether each is evidence of thesis, stage or historic activity.
- Check for direct portfolio conflicts. Similarity can support relevance while also creating a reason to pause.
- Draft one sentence connecting the company's concrete problem to the fund's stated focus. If the sentence fits any startup, research further.
Fictional example: an agent that automates financial reporting for small businesses is not the same category as infrastructure for training foundation models. Both can be called AI. A useful shortlist would test the buyer, workflow and technical layer before claiming that the same fund is a strong fit for both.
If your company operates in Europe, compare European AI mandates and allocations before assigning funds a role in the round.
For a US raise, use the AI seed thesis and allocation guide to distinguish product fit from the check your round needs.
Review AI and other seed-sector counts before narrowing a software investor search to one technology label.
Keep your evidence inspectable
Record the source, the date you read it, the specific claim it supports and the question still open. Keep a fund’s first cheque separate from its total investment per company.
