AI Skill: Pressure-Test Your Fundraising Narrative

A copyable task that separates proven claims from persuasive language, exposes the weak bridge in a pitch, and asks for specific evidence.

What it does

Find the gap between what your pitch claims and what your evidence supports.

What you get

A claim ledger, the strongest objections, and a tighter pitch narrative.

A fundraising narrative often fails at the sentence between 'customers have this problem' and 'our company can become a durable business.' Better adjectives cannot repair that missing bridge. This skill turns a pitch draft and its underlying evidence into a claim ledger, a list of objections, and a tighter version that keeps uncertainty intact. It is an editing and reasoning task, not an investor verdict.

Turn the supported narrative into slides with the Claude pitch-deck task table, then audit the claims before sending.

Sequoia's business-plan questions distinguish problem, solution, alternatives, model, and timing. YC's pitch guidance begins with explaining plainly what the company does. Use those as checks, not as a demand to copy a particular deck structure.

What to paste into the task

Bring the current one-sentence company description, the pitch paragraphs you actually use, dates and source notes for metrics, and the strongest alternatives a customer could choose. If a customer quotation is not approved for use, remove identifying detail. Do not paste confidential data you are not permitted to share. Give the model unedited objections too; otherwise it may reward a story that has never faced contradiction.

Evidence for every match

Know why a fund fits before you write

Each match shows the fund's stated mandate, cheque size and dated recent deals, with links to the sources.

Turn the reviewed claims into slides with the Claude investor pitch-deck guide.

Fictional worked example

Fictional input: TrellisPath says, 'We eliminate all procurement waste with AI.' It has twelve interviews, two pilots, and a founder spreadsheet showing that one pilot team spent fewer hours reconciling purchase orders. The ledger can call the pilot observation a fact only if the baseline and measurement period are provided. 'All procurement waste' remains unsupported; 'AI' may describe an implementation choice rather than the customer's job. A defensible rewrite might name the buyer, the reconciliation workflow, and the two pilots, while leaving the time-saving claim conditional until measured against a baseline.

Failure case and how to recover

A model produces a polished paragraph claiming a tenfold cost reduction because the draft says 'much faster.' That is a hallucinated quantitative fact, not copy improvement. Reject the paragraph, return to the claim ledger, and require a dated numerator, denominator, and comparable process. If these do not exist, use 'we are testing whether...' or omit the claim. YC's demo-day guide emphasizes selecting and editing core points; the point of this skill is to remove unsupported points, not to make every sentence louder.

Keep the revised claims consistent with your investor search brief, turn the uncertain milestone into a round plan, and use an evidence scorecard before assigning an investor a strong fit. If your company description is still messy, you can Find investors for your startup and correct the extracted facts before relying on it.
