Build an investor outreach plan you can actually run

Turn a qualified shortlist into small, comparable outreach groups with capacity limits, learning questions, and explicit pause rules.

What it does

Turn the shortlist into a schedule your team has capacity to run.

What you get

Small outreach groups, a review cadence, and clear pause rules.

A large shortlist is not a schedule. This skill turns already researched candidates into an operating plan: who enters the next group, what you want to learn, how much work it creates, and when to pause.

Prepare the inputs

Export or paste your shortlist with stable IDs. Each row needs a firm ID, person if known, investment type, fit rationale, evidence references, contact route, and any previous interaction. Include refusals and pending introductions; they materially change the plan.

State how many new conversations you can handle and which dates are unavailable. A model cannot infer founder capacity from the number of investors in the list. Redact private contact details if they are not needed for scheduling.

Evidence for every match

Know why a fund fits before you write

Each match shows the fund's stated mandate, cheque size and dated recent deals, with links to the sources.

Match the subject to the actual exchange using these investor email subject-line examples.

Worked example

Fictional startup RelayDock supplies scheduling software to warehouse operators. Its supplied list contains 18 records across 14 firms; four records are colleagues at firms already represented. Two firms have declined, and three lack verified stage fit. The ready pool is nine firms, not 18 independent opportunities.

The founder can handle four new contacts and three meetings each week. The plan schedules four first contacts, holds five for later, and reserves review time. It compares a workflow-led opening with a customer-evidence opening only among candidates with similar fit; it does not label four observations a statistically proven winner.

Sources and open questions stay visible alongside the fit.

If three replies say the round is too early, the plan pauses expansion and revisits stage targeting. It does not simply recommend a more aggressive subject line.

Check the output before using it

Every scheduled row should resolve to one real candidate and a permitted route. No firm should appear twice unless the plan explains a genuinely separate personal investment. Dates must respect your capacity and any requested waiting period.

Draft the selected first message with from shortlist to conversation. Handle subsequent replies or silence with investor follow-up. In Find investors for your startup, prepare the brief and save search candidates; the outreach schedule remains a manually reviewed plan, not an email campaign launched by the product.
