Read the fund cycle without inventing dry powder

Classify fund announcements and deal evidence to decide whether an investor appears open to new relationships, follow-ons only, or needs clarification.

What it does

Read saved fund announcements and deal evidence for signs of current investing activity.

What you get

An activity assessment with its limits—not a made-up dry-powder estimate.

Cross-check the vehicle timeline with six signals of current VC investment activity, then ask whether the fund is considering new companies at your stage.

Outcome

A fund-cycle review should tell you what to ask next, not pretend to reveal a bank balance. This workflow creates a dated activity ledger and a bounded decision: evidence of new investing, evidence limited to existing holdings, explicit pause, or unresolved.

A fund announcement is not proof that every team member can invest at every stage. Index's July 2024 announcement names separate venture and growth vehicles. The research lesson is to attach evidence to the relevant vehicle rather than one firm-wide cash figure. Index's announcement.

Use the dated sources in the Series A investor list as a starting point for the activity ledger, not as proof of remaining capital.

Prepare the inputs

Supply saved source text, not just links. Each item needs a source ID, URL, publication date if known, and capture date. Include fund announcements, relevant investment announcements, current criteria, and any explicit statement about accepting new opportunities. Do not supply confidential materials without permission.

Evidence for every match

Know why a fund fits before you write

Each match shows the fund's stated mandate, cheque size and dated recent deals, with links to the sources.

For each announced financing, distinguish the event date from the announcement date. A recent article may describe an old investment. If the text does not say whether the investor is entering for the first time, mark entry type unknown.

Seedcamp's FAQ distinguishes initial investments from a dedicated vehicle supporting existing portfolio companies later. That is why follow-on activity should not automatically be treated as evidence that new startups are eligible. Seedcamp FAQ, checked September 24, 2026.

A fictional output

Suppose the supplied materials for fictional Quarry Ventures contain a fund launch eighteen months ago and two recent investments described explicitly as follow-ons. The correct result is “follow-on evidence only.” It is not “inactive,” “fully deployed,” or “ready to lead our round.”

02 / EvidenceCheck the evidence

Sources and open questions stay visible alongside the fit.

The next question could be: “Is this vehicle currently considering first investments at our stage?” A positive answer from an appropriate current contact would change the research decision. The two announcements alone do not.

When to stop researching

Stop once an additional public source is unlikely to change the next action. Ten more logo announcements rarely answer a specific allocation question. Preserve the unknown and ask it during qualification.

Do not apply a universal age cutoff to funds. This workflow classifies the evidence supplied, not the fund's entire lifecycle or legal permissions. An absence of announcements is not an explicit pause. A new announcement is not a commitment to your company.

Use the result

Attach this note to the investor evidence scorecard, then check the initial-check evidence. If activity appears relevant but the company rationale is weak, return to thesis fit. Only then decide who goes first.
